Oil on wood 70 x 100 cm

I had been living in Cézanne country for over 5 years when I did this painting. It was about time I address the great mountain. I am not naturally drawn to the “Minerale” as the French put it when talking about rocks. One day, on a wonderful hike up there, a storm coming in made something click for me. And trying to figure out how this dynamic pile of limestone is put together turned out to be an interesting puzzle.
