Jardin d’Oz Miel
I always have been fascinated by the honey bee and jumped at the opportunity to design a label for my apiculteur friend, Jean-Charles Oziemblowski, who is launching his honey business this year. His hives are in the countryside outside the charming village of Jouques, and his bees get their sustenance from the flowers of the garrigue, the fragrant vegetation zone that covers the dry hills of Provence with rosemary, thyme, thistle, broom and thousands of other flowers. In July, the the lavender fields that surround his home are in full bloom, and there’s a special recolte of everyone’s favourite, the honey made with lavender nectar.
I designed the label to reflect the premium quality of Jean Charles’ honey. I wanted to differentiate his brand from that of the many other regional honey producers, who all seem to define their brands traditionally, with old-fashioned typography and a faded palette that, to me, don’t complement the sublime golden colour of the honey itself. I kept the logo simple and graphic, and was so grateful to manage a custom die cut for the hexagonal shape thanks to the online printer, Pixart, which offers good quality at reasonable prices.
